2020 In Hindsight

It's that time of year again to talk about all those New Years resolutions I did not accomplish throughout the year, and to prepare new ones for the next year (also won't be

accomplished). So, in conclusion let's talk about the dumpster fire that was 2020.

The year started off for me with great promise and anticipation for NaMoPaiMo, like every year. For some reason I never really got into the swing of things and fell very behind, barely scraping the midnight deadline with my micro Armstrong, Takoyaki. This really set the tone of the rest of the year for me.

Coronavirus, I argued earlier this year, was going to be like Swine Flu, Mad Cow Disease, and Bird flu; a big deal for a while but really nothing to be concerned about. My coworkers, both extremely nervous people who can barely function outside their homes, were in a complete panic and warned me that I was wrong. Okay okay I admit it, they were right and Covid blew up. Lockdown, masks, curfews... do I really need to remind anyone how awful this pandemic has been? Not to mention all the sacrifices and lost loved ones.

In Canada, things have been relatively under control. We watched the fires burn around the world and the election flip on its head in the U.S. We saw threats of war in China/ Taiwan, and watched country after country lock down. Also, we had our worst year ever for horse racing, personally, and other losing the best breeding stallions in the world.

On that, why don't we talk about the highlights of 2020. Were there any? Of course! What about the camaraderie of our model horse community online! Not just our community but the world remembering family time is equally as important as personal time. Realizing that majority of administration work can be done from home. Acknowledging that your baby/ cat/ family member will do something really stupid during one of your Zoom calls....... and it's ok. Finally renovating the kitchen like you said you would do 5 years ago, because now you actually have to stare at it all the time. Admitting that you probably spent too much online shopping and you could have paid for a luxury vacation next year instead.

I conveniently don't remember last years New Years resolutions... but this year is to eat less butter. No promises.

Happy New Years and lets hope that 2021 isn't a B movie sequel! Cheers!
