Cheese Update

I never did update how the three fillies were making out. Taiga, Salem and Lida grew up into stunning yearlings and we have a lot of hope that they will be decent little racehorses. They just celebrated their first birthdays on January 1st but these are all weanling photos.

Taiga

Taiga actually went to the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale to sell as a yearling. She fell just a thousand dollars shy of her reserved price and we decided that she will too nice to let go. She came home and will resell as a yearling later on.

She was born very tall with long deer legs and... we don't know what happened but she just sort of stayed at that height and grew width wise? Maybe she's part halter quarter horse?

Salem

By far the prettiest out of the 2018 foal crop. Salem is tall, elegant, and very personable. We're sure that she will be the best racehorse out of these bunch. Her uncle is American Pharaoh after all.

We like Salem so much that for 2020 we are rebreeding her mother, Ellie, back to Cairo Prince for a full sibling!

Lida

What can I say about Lida... she isn't at all like her mother Flax. She's wild, impatient, and always trying to get into trouble. Also unlike her massive warmblood-like mother, she's narrow and lean. She's also had some issues while growing up like a fractured sesamoid (we suspect Flax stepped on her) and some ankle chips. Will she be a sales yearling? Ehhhhhhhhh maybe? But there shouldn't be any reason she can't be a racehorse. Her mother is the full sister to Canadian Horse of the Year 2017, Champion Sprinter 2017, and Champion Older Male 2017, Pink Lloyd!
