Ichiban

Here's a small update on that first foal that I posted about.

His name is Ichiban (#1 or first) and we call him Ban for short. He's healthy, he's lively, and he can easily wiggle out of a bear hug when the vet is nearby.

Ban has been doing great since his big entrance and has done everything right. Mom on the other hand was skeptical at first, but she quickly adapted and won't stop staring at him. It's really a great scene to witness. She also get's nervous when he's sleeping for too long and will gently wake him up with a hoof and keep poking until he gets up. In turn, poor Ban is pretty tired.

On his first outing to the outside, I was pushing him along with mom right behind him. He lost his balance and went down in slow motion with me still holding him. He calmly evaluated his predicament and decided that the doorway was the perfect place to take a nap. What a character.

Mom is dealing with some tearing, bruising, and a minor infection, but the vet is not very concerned. She has been put on some antibiotics but is expected to make a full recovery.
