Finally, our last foal has been born and we are finally out of the woods. It hasn't been easy but the fun has just begun!
On Monday night, I checked in on Flax, the last mare to pop. All was quiet and Flax appeared like she was going to foal in another 24 hours or so. I went to bed confident in both her and the alarm. I was going to be getting up through the night anyways. At 5am i awoke and felt strange.
The monitor was quiet but I had a funny feeling, so I went out to check on Flax.
I walked in and saw a very sheepish looking Flax. I poked my head over the door to see a clean and dry chestnut foal, much to my surprise. She was strong and healthy and a filly!
Her name is Lida, named after my grandmother and she is by a stallion named Fast Anna.
With this little filly on the ground, I can officially conclude foal watch! In two weeks, this little filly and Salem will make the journey to Kentucky for their moms to be rebred. They will join Ichiban and Taiga down there where they can run and play in 20 acre paddocks! They will return in about 2 months and grow up back here with lots of love and cuddles.
