We Painted, Honestly - A NaMoPaiMo Post Part 2

Writer's picture: AndreaAndrea

Here, Erica models how good the food was.

With full intention of finishing our painting weekend strong, Erica and I awoke at the crack of dawn (10:30am) to continue painting. We put a layer of pigments on a handful of models before lunch, then trekked out to the closest town for soups and sandwiches. It was a nice breath of fresh air, since my entire farmhouse stunk like a Dullcote factory! *Wet studio is in the works with full ventilation*

Back to models; we worked diligently through the day rotating the horses in batches. By bringing 2-3 up at a time and letting the others cure, we worked very efficiently. I do want to point out that I am finding pigments far more enjoyable than the oils I'm used to. During the last 2 NaMoPaiMo's I have been an oil artist and did like them... but the drying time was murder. Though I gave myself lots of time, oils forced me to go right to the deadline.

I have worked in pastels before, but many years ago, and didn't hate it... but the final model was questionable at best. With the help of NaMoPaiMo, holy I've learned a lot. This is for sure a separate post for a separate time! The pigments have given me a lot of freedom and it was amazing to work on 5-6 layers and SEE a difference between each. Erica managed to finish bases too! She's a lot faster than I am, so I have no doubt her little donkey foal will be done this week (you can do it!).

While we painted, we listened to Bob Ross as he reminded us in his melodic voice that accidents are fine and that we got this. Thanks Bob for the vote of confidence! I highly recommend that you use his painting video's as ambient noise while you work, its very relaxing.

We were also visited by this little fellow who stayed around all afternoon. He was great to watch and let us rest our eyes.

It was great day and the only bad part about it was that it ended. Erica and I are already planning our next weekend together, though I do hope to finish Taiga before then (I can't handle the stress of last minute painting), but of course I will have my 'I Did It Too' horses! Even more so since Medallion Mayhem has been confirmed for the Jennifer Show! So that means that I will need more than just 2 painted medallions! *whimpers*

And below was my personal work completed this weekend. PRODUCTIVE!

And for those asking

"What about that mare you took to the vet clinic?"

She's laughing at us and hasn't foaled.
